This past weeks tying

So it's Sunday again and still waiting for the ice to leave the lake so I can get out and try out some of these new flies I've tied. It was cold last week so we didn't have much melt. Also excited about trying out the new fly rod I got for my birthday last week. Got one of the new Access rods from Orvis. It's a 9' 6 weight for the small mouth around here. Also put one of the new Access mid arbor reels on it. Seems like it's going to be a sweet rod!!
Here are a few examples of the types of flies I tied. Got to decide what I will concentrate on this week.

My wife got me an Oasis fly tying bench which is great. Now I can move around the house and tie where I want. Sit in a comfortable chair and put it on my lap and tie away.

Saturday

Went out ice fishing this morning for a couple hours. Only one white perch so decided to come home and tie some flies. Tied some Wooly Buggers and a couple different sizes and a few Clouser Minnows.

Plan to ice fish one more time tomorrow. Hopefully the bite will be better. Looks like this will be the last weekend since the edges of the ice won't last much longer if we get warm weather around here this week.

Poppers

Well I made a few poppers last weekend and had a chance this week to finish the rest. I think they came out pretty good but the real test will be if the small mouths around here will like them.

I think this weekend I'll be tying a bunch of Wooly Buggers and trying to get out on the lake one more time ice fishing before the ice becomes to unsafe.

Cabin Fever

Well it's been in the low to mid forties with some rain the past few days and the snow is slowly melting. The lake is now starting to open up around the edges but there is still plenty of ice out there. Even though we can't get on right in front of our house there are 2 trucks and a couple of bobhouses still on the ice this morning. I'll be surprised if the houses are out there by the end of the day.

Have tied a lot of flies for trout and trolling for salmon this winter so this weekend I turned my attention to the bass. Tied up a couple poppers, Clouser minnows and I few I made up with rabbit fur. Looking forward to trying them out.

It's now 19 days till salmon season opens up around here. Would be nice if the ice is gone by then so the boat will be in but I doubt it this year. Will have to fish the open water around the docks till it goes out.

Here a few photos of this weekend flies.

Nice Lake Trout

Well it's raining here in New Hampshire and the snow has been melting fast. Decided to take the bobhouse off the lake today before it gets too messy out there. While I was getting the house ready I put my tipups in. Caught a small yellow perch and this nice 22 inch lake trout. Well the house is now off the ice and will start hoping for warmer weather to open the lake up again. Now looking forward to ice out and getting the boat in.
